Yaritza Mendez

Make the Road New York.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Yaritza at the age of 14, picked MRNY as her preferred internship site. She was attracted by their mission and their work. During that time, their immigration team was doing work on in-state and out-of-state tuition, which heavily impacted undocumented youths. She enjoyed helping out in the campaign and their growing youth program so much that she ended up going over her internship hours. Yaritza decided to stay involved and came back every afternoon after school. MRNY’s work has shaped her so much that when in college she decided to double major in Sociology and Criminology with a minor in Civic Engagement with the hope of continuing helping the immigrant community. “What’s great, is that I get to do just that for a living…” -Yaritza
