Bethany Leal

Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA).
I joined the US Air Force straight out of high school (in 1981) and after having spent 4 ½ years in the Service, I worked for 14 years, in Aerospace and accounting. I was a volunteer organizer with Radical Women from 1995-2000. The socialist-feminist organization specializes in women-of-color leadership development. I learned theory and practice through participating in coalitions, organizing meetings, rallies, press conferences and other actions. In 2000, I began working as a policy coordinator at a women’s law center. By the time I left, eight years later, I was the Director of Reproductive Justice. I spent 7 years as the Finance and Operations Director of a conflict resolution education organization. Now I am the Development Director at KIWA, a worker center in Koreatown, Los Angeles.
